Saitek comes out of the box set up for right-handers it's very easy to adjust any part of the stick.Watch for small parts while you're adjusting the joystick. The adjustment is fairly easy.Every part is secured by a bolt. In order to adjust a part, you'll need to unscrew it, adjust the part, and replace the screw.The joystick components are very well made, with a strong sturdy feel durring play. The shape of the joystick is symmetrical down the middle. Large hands won't be cramped, and small hands won't be stretched.This stick is called "Cyborg 3D" is because it has 3D Twist control like the MS Sidewinder.The stick is connected to the base by a metal spring, which bends as the stick is twisted. The connection cord is around 6 feet long
Recomended: smooth, comfortable and sturdy design.enough buttons with a hat-switch, throttle and R-Z twist axis.Ability to "calibrate" the axis'.nice look look.fair 6' cable length. Should be 10'

If the wow factor is important to you, then this stick has it coming out of its ears. With its high tech appearance it's bound to get a few admiring glances, and its sleak matt anti-slip finish is a joy to hold.I thinkSaitek must also be praised for its attempts to make this stick soadaptable.The supplied key tool can be used to raise and lower the handsupport for any size of hand and it can also be switched to the oppositeside, as can the throttle lever, making it suitable even for left handedplayers. The top buttons can also be adjusted in two planes for addedcomfort. So where is the achilles heal?Well, for one, the point of viewhat is positioned in a way that makes it very hard to use withoutaccidentally pressing one of the three buttons in front of it (unless youhappen to have an incredibly long thumb that is).Also, there are definiteproblems with stray signals during games causing twitches. Saitek's latestdrivers claim to have cured this problem, but even with them installedthere were still stability problems evident. Finally, within a day ofpurchase, the trigger became so tight that it was not releasing themicroswitch. The addition of a little light machine oil seemed to cure thisproblem, but for how long remains to be seen. I dearly wanted this to bethe perfect stick, but it ended up a bit of a letdown really. Fingerscrossed for the next model eh!

I bought this joystick to replace my Saitek x45 Digital Flight Stick when I realized at a LAN party that the cords were way to long and messy on the x45.So I decided to go wireless, wireless keyboard and mouse.But I had problems finding a good wireless joystick...until I found this one.Like all the other Saitek joysticks I have owned, the Cyborg Evo Wireless is slick looking and fully customizable.And of course, it's wireless.

Whether you're a righty or a lefty, you can move the butt of the joystick up or down, flip it around, whatever you want to do.You can tilt the head of the joystick one way or another, and you can raise or lower the platform with buttons 2, 3, and 4.But that isn't the end of this thing's customizability.Like all other Saitek joysticks, this comes with their SST smart programming software.You can program one of this joystick's 12 buttons (not including the axes or the hat) to do anything you wish...you can even macro program them!

The joystick performs quite well in gaming situations and doesn't lag or miss a beat at all.The stick feels quite sturdy, although being mostly plastic.Saitek sure does make some sturdy plastics.The stick is able to sustain my beatings of whipping it around when flying my helicopter in Battlefield: Vietnam.

I only have one complaint about this joystick, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.Every once and a while I get some connectivity issues if I leave the joystick alone for an extended period of time and then come back to it.Since the joystick has an auto-sleep funciton, after it goes to sleep for a long while it loses its lock on the transmitter.But pressing the connect button doesn't solve the problem.I have to take the battery out and put it back in for it to connect. Other than that, however, a very sturdy joystick and definately worth the money, especially if you are looking to remove the clutter from your desk from all those wires.

Review of PS2/PS3/PC Run N Drive 3-in-1 Rumble Force 7-Axis Gamepad

If you are buying this for PC, you may beware as the other two reviews seem to suggest it doesn't work. However, it's not a problem with USB functionality, as it works perfectly with the PS3.

I bought this because I primarily play shooters, which have an option to either invert the y-axis (so that down looks up and up looks down) or not. My friends are split about fifty fifty on which they use. So having a controller which could switch between the two configurations at the press of a button seemed an ideal solution. Well, it's not.

One of the major downfalls of the controller (which cost it at least a star) is that it's not wireless. The cord is conveniently whited out in the product picture, which is very misleading. Of course, it doesn't say anywhere on the product description that it's wireless, but as I have a few other controllers with a USB wireless dongle, I just assumed. My mistake. Not a big deal since I have a USB extension cord. The cord with the controller is around 6 ft by itself, and that's too close for comfort for me. I prefer wireless and I really think, at the price I bought it, it should be.

The second downfall is that there are not 2 programmable modes as the description says. There is ONE programmable mode for each setting (4 axesmode used with PS3, 5 axes and 7 axes which can only be used with PC) What this means is you cannot program 2 different modes and switch between them at will while playing a game on PS3. You can switch between your SINGLE programmed mode, and the default mode. Now, this would be okay, except for the triggers.

The two programmable triggers are placed where the R2/L2 buttons are on the official gamepad, and those two buttons are moved to the back of the gamepad. This would be fine, except that, by default, the triggers do not function as R2/L2 but as Up on the right analog and Down on the right analog. What this means is, in default mode, you have to use the back of the gamepad for R2/L2. If you've been playing with the playstation model controller for years, it takes some getting used to. If the shooter doesn't use R2/L2 for much, it'll probably be okay. But some use those as the actual gun trigger/grenades/etc., and it's a lot simpler to have the action in a reflexive position. I don't know why they didn't make them emulate R2/L2 by default. That's just shortsighted. I guess it was to help with vehicle control, but it would've been smarter to let people program that in, and leave the default as the original control scheme.

Other than that, it functions great. The Optical wheel is MUCH more precise than an analog or mini-stick. It's really great for zooming in, or for precise steering. Being fully programmable is also fairly awesome. I'll probably just write down set-ups for every game so I can quickly switch between them. The programming itself is a breeze. You press preset button, press the mapping button, press the button you want to move, and then press the button you want to use. Done. The triggers are also much more precise than the originals, so throttling and braking is much smoother and more controlled. I'm pretty happy with it, all in all, but being wired and badly preprogrammed took some points off.

Should probably check the tags for this product and make sure there are no "wireless controller" or "ps3 wireless controller" tags, as I'm pretty sure that's what I searched when I got this, and it certainly isn't wireless.

The game was late in shipping according to the emails I got and the 3 to 5 business day promise but it arrived before Christmas which was the important thing.It was in pristine condition and a lot of fun.The only real critique is that your feet get off can't feel the area of the pad they should be hitting so you may be doing the right choreography but off the mark.I would get one of the mats that have indentations next time so you can feel the right marks with your feet and not have to look down at the mat as well as the tv.

he game gets 4 stars.The new DDR Ultramix3 is better (it has songs that most people recognize).The game does have lots of fun songs to dance to.It is a wonderful workout and a great way to get exersize.I totally recommend the game.

The dance mat gets 4 stars. You're probably getting this set for the dance mat. A few positive points: works wonderfully! Much better than the cheap Konami mat that you can get with other sets. It is pretty and your feet don't stick to the mat. Also, there is none of the wait time that plagues other mats. I recommend this! On the negative side, the cord isn't the longest... if you are going to be more than five feet from your game console you are going to need an extender. One other point is that the mat is said to be "non-slip" - and mine is not. It sides all around when you are dancing (I tried it on carpet and on a hard surface). It's not too bad, but a bit annoying when you have to reposition the mat every few songs.

If you are a DDR amature, getting a cheap pad would be a better idea than this one. The game is NOT as easy as it looks! It is a great workout however. If you are a returning DDRer, this is a great buy.

This is a ok joystick.I wouldn't say it was awsome, though.It is definitely not awsome.It feels cheap and it is all plastic.It is very light, and that's not good because the whole thing will tilt sometimes when i move the stick left or right.The small rubber pads on the bottum don't help keep the joystick in one place very well.The spring that holds the stick in a centralized location is very loose and it is too easy to move the stick around.That's why it feels cheap.All of the games that I have don't support the rumble feature, so I don't know how well the rumble works.This is overpriced and should be around $15 or $20.If it was $15 I'd say it was a good buy.It works, but there are many much better sticks for around the same price.Get some other joystick.

I got this pad because it was cheap, it had the four buttons that I needed, and it was ergonomic.My hands are always very comfortable holding this controller, even when I've been gaming for the last few hours.The directional pad is very unique.There is a circular attachment that fits in the bottom of the controller to give you a standard d-pad.You can take this attachment out and plug it in to the center of the d-pad, making the d-pad higher and more like a joystick (as shown in the picture of the controller).I play with it almost exclusively like this.I haven't been able to use the triggers in the current EA Sports games that I've been playing, so count on four buttons.If you are looking for more options (buttons) in your games, I highly recommend upgrading to the six-button Microsoft USB Sidewinder Pro.

This is it.I can't think of another game controller that just puts all of the controls you'll need for any gamepad-based pc game (emus too) onto a single device without contorting it into some handheld monster on the loose craving for carpel tunnel madness.It's like if you took a playstation 2 controller and added two extra buttons on the front right so it can suit arcade fighter layouts and games that would've played well with a 6 button genesis controller, and built turbo and macros in as well.It's a little larger and a bit heavier than a playstation 2 controller but it's more smoothly built without being less sturdy.

The vibration is great as well - I had nearly forgot about it before trying fahrenheit (indigo prophecy in the US) and nearly jumping out of my seat with the heartbeats.

For some reason or another though the controller has been dropped by my local best buy and I've only been able to find it here so far - grab it while you can, I'm definately going to pick up at least one more as it's such a great controller and I know I'm probably going to wear it out a few years from now and I'd die if there wasn't a good replacement waiting for me.

Review of Logitech WingMan Strike Force 3D (USB)

Sorry Logitech, I love your keyboard, but your joystick leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I picked up the stick to do a little flying in Battlefield 1942 (BF).Now, given that BF could use a little more spit and polish in the joystick support department, the WingMan Strike Force 3D didn't meet my expectations.
It installed quickly and easily, no problems there.When I finally got around to the calibration phase, the stick seemed a bit loose and would pull to the left.I thought I could compensate by trying to calibrate so it would read the pull as the center, right?Wrong.Once I fired up BF, I was constantly having to compensate by pulling the stick to the right, which would throw off my ability to turn right (imagine flying a two engine plane with one engine out).
Needless to say, it's going back to the store tomorrow morning.I'll opt for a non-force feedback system for now (alot of the BF players have been complaining about not getting their Force Feedback sticks to work).I've heard good things about Microsoft's Precision Pro (non-Force Feedback), and even Logitech's WingMan Extreme 3D (non-Force Feedback).Until I can sock away [$$$] for the Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar, I'll keep trying to find a moderately priced stick that works well (I don't think that's too much to ask).
I suppose I should also note, that when I was out looking at sticks earlier in the day, I noticed that a few of the WingMan's rubber boots around the stick and the base were starting to crack.
Oh, one last thing, at the time of my writing this ..., Amazon has the wrong WingMan pictured.The Strike Force 3D has a wheel (similar to your mouse's wheel) off to the left side, with a button on both sides.

WOW! All I can say about this thing is that it ROCKS. I have never, EVER, been so fluid, and DANGEROUS, in Descent Freespace! OMG! Kill after kill, this thing never ceased to amaze me. Maybe it's my erm... unique (read:crazy) playing style, but the twisting, tumbling world of descent justfeels so... right with this stick. Did I mention I was left handed? Well,It doesnt matter with this stick! Definitely its best feature. The program(Command Centre) doesn't come with the stick, tho... bummer. But, oncedownloaded, it ran with no problems.

I just got one of these last week and tried using it last night.I have an older Metal DDR pad that I've been using for my ps2/pc and was hoping to use it with the Wii game "Hottest Dance Party".The Dance pad receives power and the buttons light up when pressed, but the game does not register any of the buttons being pressed.I don't know if the adapter is at fault, or if I have to have a specific type of pad to be compatible with Konami's game.It should just work.. :(

this wheel has my vote for 4 stars, that's just because it's not the force. other than that this wheel is awesome. it's easy access programable buttons are a major plus for those fast games we gamers like to play inthese modern times. further more, it's rubber grip is the BEST i'veseen...most the others are just made of the same material cows let out oftheir "BUTTS". so my final words are...either buy this wheel orthe red force one, either one you get is a lifetime good investment.

Review of USB Double Shock2 Game Controller for PC

I bought this exact controller off of Ebay for 9 dollars.It was as easy to set up as plugging it in and setting up the emulators to run with the controller.It works like a charm.It is the exact size as a standard PS controller even down to the analogs which have that powder coating for grip and the buttons work fine and don't stick.
The only issue I have had is when I turn my computer on I get a message saying that whatever is plugged into the USB port is not being recognized as anything.So I have to unplug it when I turn my computer on.But for a controller that works perfect I can deal with it.I got a disk that came with it but I won't put it in my disk drive as I have no idea whats on it.And most of the disks that come with stuff like this just has a bunch of malware on it anyway.So I wouldn't use it even if I did know what it was for.

A final note: I only play emulated games I own.

I bought this for private pilot training. All of the switches, throttles, etc. are easy to set up and use. The problem is the quality of materials makes this unsuitable for training for piloting a real plane. After a short time the internal friction builds up so that it is impossible to get the yoke to center. This means that it is not possible to get a plane trimmed out and the pilot must make constant attitude adjustments. Also because of the friction a firm shove is required to initiate any movement. This technique transferred to a real plane causes a very abrupt application of force to the flight controls. Needless to say this makes practicing IFR just about impossible.

After the problem developed I contacted CH to troubleshoot it. They were very helpful and eventually agreed to exchange it. Within a few hours of flying with the replacement it developed the same problems. This is despite the polishing and lubrication recommended by the support staff.

If you are looking for a yoke to add realism to your flight training steer clear of this one as it will cause you to develop bad habits that will be expensive to break. And after all, weren't we SIMing to save money in the first place?

Though the dual triggers of the Logitech WingMan aren't in the historically correct place for a pinball machine, they're a much better and more responsive alternative to using the SHIFT keys as flipperbuttons.
Software installation was boringly easy as was setting the gamepad up for use with various pinball games.
If you don't seem to bewinning as many replays as you'd like, try the WingMan.And hear the"CLUNK!" of another replay racking up.:)

With this Joystick, you get the quality and looks of a much more expensive product. I bought it as an alternative to another, much much more expensive one, and now I can't imagine going and using the more expensive one; the Afterburner is simply perfect.

Perfect, except for one problem I've had with the Joysticks rudder twist. It sometimes reads center as all the way right, but I prefer the throttles rudder switch anyway, so that doesn't bother me. It is probably a factory error, unique to mine based on other reviews.

Looks great, very inexpensive, high quality, and I love the seperate stick-throttle setup. If you want a joystick, this will satisfy you perfecly, unless you need a wireless.

This controller is by far the best by Logitech.After tryng several logitech and a Saitek controller, the Chillstream is by far the best I have had it for a month and had no problems. Logitechs Xbox 360 setup works great. Madden 08 works great with it. Its like they created the controller for EA sports games like Madden. Instead of having numbers like with other controllers for receivers you a blue X, yellow Y, Red B, and green A. The cooler works great as it keeps your hands comfortable.

I've owned this pad for about 6 months now and all together I'm fairly satisfied with it. As the description says it is the cheapest pad (that I could find) that will work with the PS1, PS2, Xbox, and the PC. Quality wise I would say that this pad is worse than the official pads from Konami. When I received mine it wouldn't lie flat on the floor until I had used it for awhile and there were some creases in the foam on the bottom that still have not gone away. As far as sensitivity originally it seemed fine but recently I have noticed that I have needed to hit the buttons harder to get them to register but that might be the result of my increase in skill level since I started using the pad. Still for $20 I don't think I would be overly disappointed if the pad broke down after 6 or so months of fairly heavy use. Overall I would say that if you plan on only using the pad for console playing stick with an official brand but if you are looking for a pad to use with a PC program (like Stepmania) and still be able to play console DDR titles this pad is a fairly economical choice.

lets face it, as far as wireless videogame controllers go, it is a fairly new technology. being such a new technology, there are not many options out there. The two major brands are this controller by pelican, and another by logitech. This controller has the obvious edge for one reason alone, the size. The logitech controller is considerably larger than your average PS2 controller, and takes quite a bit of getting used to. The pelican wireless is near, if not exactly, the same size as the average PS2 controller, with a small battery pack on the back. This controller will play your game from just about anywhere you could possibly want to, from the bed, the couch, or just right in front of the TV. As for battery power, i have religiously used this controller for about 2 to 4 hours a day for 6 months now, and have yet to replace the batteries. A great buy!

It's not a typical sized mousepad, that's for sure. I don't see any advantages over a typical mousepad as far as the texture goes really, but it does protect a large area on my desk, which was otherwise wearing down from much mouse use.

This pad is thin, but stays in place with a layer of rubber beneath it. Works so much better than using a laser mouse on wood or metal, but that's a given.

This is an amazing gamer's mousepad at a great price. I'm using a Logitech laser mouse and it works perfectly. There is zero resistance/drag when using this pad. The mouse just slides on it like butter. Not only has it improved my accuracy in FPS games like counter-strike, it also improves the general mouse control in windows as well. Even if you don't play PC games, it is worth it to get this pad. The quality is top notch, the base is solid brushed metal and everything about it feels well made. It comes with an aluminum case (if you do LAN parties) which is a nice bonus. This is a great buy.

Some of the other gaming pads only come in insanely large sizes. This pad is big, but not overly so. It will fit on most desks without having to put it under your keyboard or anything like that. It also has a double surface (you can flip the top part of the pad) which is nice. Bottomline, I have never used a better mousepad. As far as I know, this is the best one. Also, you can customize the pad for a little extra if you order from the manufacturers site, you can even supply your own jpegs and they will print it on the pad! Amazing product, you wont regret it.

The N.50 is to first person shooter games (like "Quake III Arena" or "Half-Life") what Thrustmaster products are to flight sim games: a programmable game controller designed with the idea that you need never touch your own keyboard again. With a shape suggesting a hand, the N.50 has 10 keys - in 2 rows of 5, a traditional 4-way keypad ala your console game-pad and, for those moments in which your thumb might get bored waiting to use the 4-way pad - and for those even rarer moments when you might need throttle control - a throttle wheel! Entirely programmable using bundled software, the N.50 can be customized to fit your preferences for the most convenient fragging. Though combining many controller functions, the N.50 does not replace your mouse, which would have freed up a USB slot. (On the other hand, it's not like you'll be scanning pictures and downloading from your digital camera while blasting your closest pals to a pulp in some virtual deathmatch; and anyway, there's probably a limit to how many functions a single controller can handle at a shot).

Fitting on your USB slot, the N.50 is a breeze to install. Belkin's "Profile Editor" makes it easy to map the keys for specific games. (The software that came with my N.50 was not optimized for Windows XP. An XP-friendly version was available on Belkin's website back in 2003; finding it online today may be more difficult).

Customizing keystrokes is incredibly easy - as compared to working the bugs out of my Thrustmaster setup. So far, I've used the N.50 on "Star Trek: Elite Force",both All three "Jedi Knight" games and the original "Half Life".

I am now totally spoiled for keyboards.

Two issues.

Build quality shows a shortcoming in relation to the directional keypad: even with practiced dexterity, I found that the control would sometimes move every way but the direction I actually wanted it to.Also, after about 6 years, one of the buttons has suddenly gotten stuck.

The other issue is that N50 will go no further than Win XP (and I can't even vouch for 64 bit version).Confirming that it still works on my older XP laptop, I have given up getting it to work on my Vista desktop.Though it shows up in "Control Panel", it does not appear connected as far as Belkin's "Profile Editor" is concerned - meaning that I can't customize keystrokes, which is a large part of the N50's reson d'etre.(Sp?)I have a Saitek X45 joystick that connects seamlessly - for all the hatemail MS got over Vista, the N50 is the only hardware that won't play ball.

Nevertheless, price-wise, the N.50 approximates a good programmable joystick. For ease of use, it's an indispensable peripheral for shooter games.If you're still running on XP, let this is your boomstick.

Review of Icemat 2nd Edition (Blue)

We purchased the 2nd Edition Icemat a month ago, and subsequently a second one. Once the initial "this is really cool" wore off, we were left with an all around excellent mouse pad. Its wide surface provides ample room and some of the best optical mouse tracking I've experienced.

The glass stays cool throughout the day, and the frosting provides low resistance against both the bottom of the mouse and whatever else that may come in contact with it. The rubber feet and weight keep the pad in place. Cleaning with soap and water is simple and effective, something that can't be done easily with most pads, particularly the fabric ones.

The only downside that I can think of is that any granular dirt that gets on the pad makes mouse movements noisy and slower. A quick brush of the arm is all that is required to make it work perfectly again.

Overall its a worthwhile investment, especially since the last "high-end" plastic mouse pads we purchased couldn't stay put on the desk and eventually the surface wore away.

The PC and PS2 compatibility feature of this gamepad alone is enough for me to recommend it to anybody.It wasn't expensive at all either.
I was lacking of a 2nd PS2 controller ever since I bought the PS2.And after I bought a new PC with WinXP, all my old PC gamepads did't work anymore cause my new PC doesn't have the old sound card game port.I have to get a gamepad with USB connection and then I 've found this.Saved me effort, money, and time to get this one controller instead of getting two.

Now, for the gamepad itself.The grip sure is comfortable with thenicely modded shape and the rubber handles.
You have 12 bottons and you can customize them.There are 2 analog trigger type buttons under the 4 shoulder buttons which you won't find on regular PS2 controller.The triggers are great for driving games.
The 2 analog sticks on the face of the gamepad is better than regular PS2 controller cause they are modded with a concave button top.You can hold your fingers on top of the analog sticks firmly without having them shifting around or losing the grip like you did on a regular PS2 gamepad which the analog sticks tend to lose under the thumbs.

This game pad is almost great.Good build quality and a nice array of controls, but the quality control is probably lacking.The Thrustmaster I received has a dead spot when when trying to "turn" left using the left joystick.

I verified in windows and in my racing game that this dead spot was only on the left joystick and only smaller left "turn" inputs fall into the "dead zone."Sometimes it actually registers right input when I move the joystick left.Not nearly precise enough for serious gamers.

This product functions as supposed but...

... the product image shows 2 Playstation2 connectors and 1 USB, indicating that you'd be able to plug 2 PS2 controllers to it, which is *NOT* true! This is a *single* controller adapter with a very short cable (that I like).

Other than that, functions correctly and was easily detected by Windows XP SP2, running on my MBP! I did have some problems with FIFA 08 not detecting my right analog stick, but I guess it's a software problem since I didn't have issues with other games!

No Start and Select, no L and R's. Just 4 buttons and a D-pad. And what's that little switch? Oh, it flips it so you can use it upside down (makes the color buttons be directions) I had one of these for a while and I hated it. Nice for two button NES game emulation, but not SNES or anything else. Get a Lik-Sang adapter and use your old Playstation 1 or 2 pads instead. Get Joy2Key and you can do keyboard and mouse mapping like a Saitek pad.

Very good product.Functions perfectly on PS1, PS2, PS3, and PC.

For those interested/concerned, switching "modes" (PC vs. PS3) is as simple as a toggle switch on the bottom of the controller.The controller has a split-out, with both a USB and a PS1/2 style input--simply plug the PS-style end into a PS1/2, no toggle-switching required.

Compared with a Dualshock model controllers, it's a bit bulkier.Think of it as a hybrid Xbox/PS3 controller...behind the typical R1/R2 L1/L2 placement is an Xbox-style trigger (R4/L4) which is also mapped to R2/L2 in Playstation mode.All controls are programmable/switchable via the controller, in either mode, which is great for PS1-3 games that don't allow customizable controls.

The buttons feel pretty firm (not as good as Dualshock buttons) and the triggers are a bit awkward, given how many there are, but after a little adjustment it feels just as natural as a PS3 controller.

HUGE BONUS - the d-pad.The D-pad is massive, it feels good, and it's Sega Saturn/Genesis style, e.g. circular, raised, and has great play.Further exemplifies just how god-awful the 360 d-pad is.

One drawback would have to be in the description.The manufacturer (or Amazon) undoubetly worded the "6 progressive axes" comment to sound like Six-Axis.Do not get these confused.This controller does not have motion control in PC mode or PS1-3 mode.The progressive axes described refer to the force-feedback (I'm assuming...) which is quite good.Do not, however, get this controller expecting a stand-in PS3 controller for Six-Axis games or you'll be sorely disappointed.Makes a fantastic Resident Evil 5 co-op controller though!

Would have been 5/5 if it weren't for the "creative advertising" designed to slightly mislead...4/5 as is, but a phenomenal controller and leagues better than anything else in its price range, considering the range of application.If you only own one PS3 controller and could use a good PC gamepad as well, you cannot do better than this purchase.

I owned the older version of this key board for a couple years (it still works by the way I just like new keyboards every couple years). The main difference between this one and the old one, is that this one has lighted keys. I gotta say, I am really glad I upgraded to the lighted model. I write at night, and sometimes I just hate turning on the room lights. The lighted keys are especially useful for web browsing or some other mouse-heavy activity that requires you to re-orient yourself to type... typically my eyes are adjusted to the bright screen and I can't really see the key board at night. The illuminated keys allow me to re-orient to the keyboard with a glance.
The keyboard is solid, tight, and nice to write on. It is evenly lit and has that nice new keyboard sound. :)

Also, the keyboard has two USB ports, as well as microphone /headphone jacks. These are conveniently located on the back of the unit so the cables are easy to reach, but won't interfere with the operation of the keyboard. The USB ports work great. My headset uses the USB ports so I cannot address the utility of the mic/headphone jacks, but it should keep many people from stringing headset wires all over--especially if you do not have easily accessible jacks on your computer.
It is easy to switch key-illumination colors/intensity with a small button near the F1-F2 keys.

One reviewer mentioned that this keyboard's keys must be closer together than others because he found it awkward to type. I found that the width of the keyboard is (backspace to ~) is the same width as the one that originally came with my PC from Dell. However, I also noticed a slight awkwardness when I first started using this type of keyboard several years ago... I suspect it comes from positioning myself in the middle of the keyboard--which is not the middle of the typing keys. The functional gaming keys on the left side cause you to be a little off center from your usual typing orientation if you center the whole system to your body. You will get used to this over time, or you can take care to orient yourself to the typing keys. If you write much, you will find you naturally adapt to this keyboard rapidly.

There is one more thing: the keyboard is wider than a standard keyboard. This was necessary to add the functional keys on the left side while keeping everything else standard-sized. This could affect how you store your keyboard if you have a slide-out keyboard drawer on your desk. I have a standard-sized keyboard drawer and it works great for typing--the size is fine for supporting the over-sized keyboard and typing. But the keyboard is too wide to just slide into the desk. You will need to rotate the keyboard about 45 degrees to stow it in the desk's keyboard drawer. For many of us this is no big deal, but some people may want to know this ahead of time.

I was looking for an inexpensive dance pad, and this worked well for the price.It has a plastic top, not too slippery on the feet - a little bit of texture to it which works.

It doesn't sit completely flat on the ground if you don't stick it down with something (perhaps some doubled-over duct tape) - keep this in mind if you buy it.It can also slip around underneath you if you don't stick it down.I haven't tried it on carpet, so I can comment about how it does on that surface.

It also has a very strong plastic smell to it if you are sensative to new plastic smell as I am - it takes awhile to air it out, up to several weeks of sitting out - to take that smell away if it bothers you.

For the price, it is worth it, nice and large, though smaller than the arcade versions.

I've used joysticks for gaming since the Atari age in the good ol' days, and I know many different models and what they can (and can't do), and this one most definitely takes the prize of the best joystick ever. Not only it's well designed (the base won't flip over as in many other models I know) but it also looks way cool!. Besides, the smart design of the stick makes it fully adjustable -and comfortable- for both right and left handed (I'm left handed and I constantly feel discriminated by the so-called "ergonomic" designs). The force feedback feature is also another highlight in this model, as it can truly kick you off from your seat if set to full power. Don't be afraid, as you can tweak the intensity to your liking. A must for true flight simulators, when you want to "feel" the plane.

Before buying it I was afraid it would be too fragile to support my wrath after being shot down, or it wouldn't support the strong evasive actions when fighting to dodge bullets, but I was definitely wrong. The metals and plastics used in this one are high-quality and quite strong, despite how fragile it might look.

Deifinitely recommendable.

Basically, you're buying a budget webcam with some fun interactive games for your kids to play with. Don't expect anything like Wii, X-box, or PS2. There is no serious gaming going on here. Just fun goofy activities that add up to lots of laughter and silliness.

The Creative webcam itself is decent. It's a well-built budget model (Creative Labs VF0040 WebCam Instant) that works for most home applications like Gamestar, AIM video chat, etc. Creative drivers are included for use with many different systems, but you can only use the Gamestar on Windows 2000/XP systems. (Don't know about Vista.) I like how it's built so you can use in different positions - either on a table top, on top of a PC, or safely propped on an LCD laptop screen. You do need some decent lighting, but I've gotten good results with a small 25 watt table lamp I keep by my PC.The nice thing is that this webcam is usable with other programs, it's not locked to just using Gamestar. (Don't expect razor sharp quality of a video camera - you'll be sorely disappointed.)

The Gamestar programs are silly fun. There are two sections to Gamestar - Games and Activities. The Games section is geared for older kids under 13and the Activities section is more geared for pre-schoolers and younger kids; although I don't doubt everyone of all ages will want to try this and have fun with it - we adults have had a giggling good time with the games ourselves.

One of my favorite is the picture gallery. There's a couple of dozen photos where you can have your face superimposed on either another person, animal, or flower. You can then take a snapshot that is save on the PC and can be printed. While this is not new game technology, it's still fun to play with.

Then there's the fish music, karate matches, dancing, and more. All simple fun - nothing hugely sophisticated, just a lot of eye candy for kids to add up to lots of movement and giggles. My four-year-old son has had a great time playing with Gamestar - he jumps, moves, and laughs at himself being silly and seeing silly things happen on the computer screen.

The best way to look at this setup is that your buying an attractive budget webcam with some extra software to add a lot of fun to your webcam. Young kids, webcam newbies, and even adults of all ages will likely find something fun with this - even if they don't want to admit it.

Review of Xfx Pc Game Controller Dual Reflex Gamepad

I bought this controller for my youngest son, to play video games with a controller similar to one he was used to (Sony PlayStation 2). Upon installing the Key Programmer utility and the drivers, my keyboard and mouse stopped responding in Windows XP (sp2). No remedy solved the error, and I ended up reinstalling WinXP. According to the company forums, there seems to be some conflicts with the drivers for this controller and the latest versions of WinXP.

As of September of 2005, a moderator/employee stated that they are 'working on it internally,' and hope to get back soon with a solution. Still waiting.

I'm still waiting, even, for a reply to the email I sent asking if there has been any new drivers created, or some other solution to the problem.

Seems that the company doesn't provide too great of support or concern for their lower-price peripherals (this controller is their cheapest priced item).

This is my first, and last, dealings with any product from the company, and I advise strongly against purchasing this controller if you use Windows (there have been some slight and random issues with other Windows OS's).

All I had to do was plug the converter into a USB port and my PS2 Dual Shock 2 controller into the converter, and my Win XP machine correctly detected the PS2 controller as a new game controller.I launched GTA:San Andreas and mapped the driving functions to the PS2 controller buttons, everything worked fine.The analog sticks worked too, as well as L3 and R3 (which are accessed by pressing down on the analog sticks.)

The converter came with one of those small CD-ROMs with I assume had drivers on it, but I didn't even open the envelope, it just worked.

Absolutely great gamepad! I have had others that would freeze\hangup. wouldn't work with certain games. [...] I can't seem to run the batteries down! The 3 AAA batteries that came with the G-pad had already started leaking. So I tossed those and started using 3 re-chargeable AAAs' and it's been weeks (actually 1 month 1 day and I still can't wring the charge out of these batteries! The joysticks do not shed\wear down! Precision movement for G-pad to player\host. I didn't know there was such a thing possible. With my other gamepads once you moved in a direction the pause time for change would mean disaster. Folks, this is the one!
p.s. I am a retired railroad worker and don't get a dime for this review!

Back in June my second Xbox 360 decided to succumb to the red ring of death; this time I, unfortunately, decided against buying the extended warranty so of course my 1-year warranty ended in April--merely two months before the Xbox died.This did not bode well for my Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare addiction.Well I found I had two options, pay a hundred bucks to Microsoft and almost certainly have it die on me again or just buy the PC version of the game and switch over from console to PC gaming.I decided to go with the second option because PC gaming allows for so many more options and is not as restrictive as to the games available.The major problem I had was that I've been using controllers to play games my entire life and just never really got used to playing with a mouse and keyboard.

I did some searching and found a number of ways to play PC games with a controller, but they were all rather complicated and required some advanced PC knowledge and/or a considerable amount of time to configure.SwitchBlade on the other hand was very easy and simple to install and use and I was playing my favorite game within minutes... CoD4 withdrawal is terrible!I was so happy with the software it made me wonder what other games I could play using it and was amazed to see support for World of Warcraft.I've always been somewhat of a nerd and had a hard time parting with EverQuest back in the day so I thought I'd give WoW a shot and downloaded the 15 day trial.I wasn't too big of a fan of WoW because it seemed like everything was handed to the players (back in my day we had to walk 10 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways) but using SwitchBlade with the game was truly a relaxing and enjoyable experience.Movement was so intuitive and the number of hotkeys available in the software is amazing--it even comes with a keyboard built in!

Anyway, I highly recommend this product to anyone who enjoys playing games with a controller.

Setup/Installation-It took no more than five minutes to install all software and get it working. It has two clamps onthe bottom of the wheel to lock onto your desk, and I've never had anyproblems with it slipping off.
Reliabilty-
I've had it sinceNovember of '99 and NOTHING has gone wrong. It's extremely durable and hastaken many beatings from my inexperienced driving.
Performance-

Review of CH Products Rudder Pedals

I got these pedals 2nd hand, and have only begun using them. For those reasons, and because I've got little experience with computer rudder pedals in general, I'm not going to actually review the item qualitive wise. However, XP users who don't really want something more but are willing to pay for it only because they think this product is incompatible with their late-model systems should think twice.
To begin with, these are CH's basic pedals. On real aircraft, the heels of each pedal are used for steering, while the upper half (the toes) are actually used for breaking. I've heard that Pro-Pedals will actually simulate this dual movement. However, these pedals do not - simulating only their use as rudders. Nevertheless, for a guy like me who's been "flying" sim games since 1986, I welcomed any chance to "get my feet off the ground" so to speak. These pedals hook up to a gameport, rather than USB. USB would have been more preferable, sure, but my other 2nd-hand gaming peripherals (a Thrustmaster WCS/FCS set-up) weren't USB either, and I'm not sure that you can play games using multiple-controllers that are USB and non-USB at the same time. If I stuck to my guns and insisted on USB, I'd probably have to junk my other otherwise satisfactory Thrustmaster controls, tossing out the money and the heartbreak spent to get them and get them to work the way I wanted.
Now here's the hard part. After getting them home I learnt of CH's decree that 1) that you needed to hook these up to a 2-port game port and 2) they won't work under XP. Though I already had a twin-port game card (an ACM card, if you must know) lying around, it was an old ISA card, and wouldn't fit on my P4's motherboard. Motherboards have long since completely abandoned the ISA bus for PCI.Twin-port game cards were themselves a bit of a novelty and never caught on string enough or for long enough for somebody to make one in PCI standard. Ready to kick myself, and wondering how much it was going to cost me to get USB for everything ..., I decided to hook it up anyway - and it worked! The pedals come with two connectors - a male connector that hooks up to your game port, and a female connector that your primary controller hooks into. My primary controller also had a keyboard pass-through for a separate throttle-controller. Once the joystick is plugged into the throttle, the throttle is connected to the computer through both the keyboard pass and through a second line that plugged into the rudders. I knew it had at least partially worked when I booted up and the keyboard till worked. WinXP recognized the rudder almost immediately (first, I had to "remove" whatever game-controller setup was already in use on the game controller control-panel. WinXP had no problem detecting the rudders as long as they were detected before the other controls, an inexplicable though otherwise tolerable quirk). So far, I've "flown" in both FS2000 and the original Combat Flight Simulator, and found performance satisfactory in both.
Would USB be better? Perhaps. The point is that simmers owning old components but upgrading to USB-PCI machines like mine shouldn't be so quick to junk otherwise reliable controllers because they won't be able to get gameport controllers to run on their newer systems.

The game gets 4 stars.The new DDR Ultramix3 is better (it has songs that most people recognize).The game does have lots of fun songs to dance to - and it is even more fun with two pads for one person (VERY difficult!) or two people dancing against each other (WAY fun!).If you have friends or a partner, get two mats.It makes a great time waster and a fun workout.

The dance mat gets 4 stars. You're probably getting this set for the dance mat. A few positive points: works wonderfully! Much better than the cheap Konami mat that you can get with other sets. It is pretty and your feet don't stick to the mat. Also, there is none of the wait time that plagues other mats. I recommend this! On the negative side, the cord isn't the longest... if you are going to be more than five feet from your game console you are going to need an extender. One other point is that the mat is said to be "non-slip" - and mine is not. It sides all around when you are dancing (I tried it on carpet and on a hard surface). It's not too bad, but a bit annoying when you have to reposition the mat every few songs.

If you are a DDR amature, getting a cheap pad would be a better idea than this one. The game is NOT as easy as it looks! It is a great workout however. If you are a returning DDRer, this is a great buy.

Review of MonsterGecko PistolMouse FPS Console

The MonsterGecko Pistol Mouse really isn't such a bad product, if you know what you're getting going in. I've read many a review where the author expresses disappointment that it's "just a mouse," and indeed, that's all it really is. You can't point into the screen with it, and you have to leave the base on your "mousing surface" in order to use it. Now that we have that out of the way, if you're willing to put up with it for a bit, the Pistol Mouse is a very usable, if altogether unnecessary bit of novelty tech.

Once retailing for as much as $70, the Pistol Mouse can be had for $10 or less these days. There is a definite learning curve when you first start to use the controller, and most people aren't used to "mousing" with your hand basically making a fist. Another cause of the learning curve is that the optical is located at the very front of the platform, which results in very different, curving movements than most people are used to using with traditional mice. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and it definitely takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually rather intuitive.

All-in-all, this is more a novelty item than anything else. While it is usuable, the learning curve is definitely steeper than with a standard mouse (second nature to most folks at this point), and most people just won't want to deal with that. On the other hand, the PistolMouse feels good and definitely isn't a cheaply-made product. If you can get one for $10 or less, it might be worth checking out.

I stumbled across these game pads, while trying to find an inexpensive controller for a couple of systems I was building for my sister and brother. At first I didn't expect much, and figured this would get them started then they could upgrade to a more [costly] rumble pad later. I plugged it in and Windows XP picked it up and set it up. (DON'T LOAD THE DRIVERS DISK ON XP). So I popped in F1 2002 and it worked pretty well, then I went on and played Madden 2002, NASCAR Racing 3 and 4, and NHL 2002, and it was great. Turned to my system, which has a Logitech Rumble Pad and get this... was disappointed in the Logitech performance compared to the Saitek. Who would have figured, an [inexpensive] controller (price wise) would play better then a [costly] big boy. Well between you and me, I kept one of these for myself, and gave the Logitech to my sister's kids. Often you get what you pay for, but sometimes you get more then you expected!
Trust me with this game pad you are getting way more then you are paying for. Who says [more costly] = better?

Very close to perfection, I actually picked up this little gem from my local Target thinking it was your average, everyday-use mouse. I also thought that the actual price was only $20 for it was on the wrong shelf. I thought, "oh well, might as well pay for something durable." Good thing I made that choice. Soon as I got home I cracked it open, plugged it in and bam, everything was fine. Windows Vista Ultimate installed the drivers automatically, so no disc was needed. Handling this thing is best described as gliding. The forward and back buttons are a nice feature, and the two sensitivity buttons are right there for when you need them. I feel so deprived that I never bought such a mouse before now and I feel the need to play every game I own over again just for the newly added accessory. Scroll wheel locks in, yet is still smooth which is great seeing as this will be used the most. I highly recommend this product and if red isn't your colour, then check out the other colours Logitech has to offer.

Bought this steering wheel as part of a bigger kit and it does not allow the Wii remote to fully interact with the sensor bar. For example, when you are trying to choose your characters and vehichle in Mario Kart you need to take the Wii remote out and then put it back in when racing. Since there is not other added value to the steering wheel (it's just a pice of molded plastic), it doesn't fulfill it's only purpose. I would not recommend this item at all.

Review of Griffin Technology PowerMate 1040-PMT USB Multimedia Controller and Input Device (Aluminum, PC/Mac)

If so, the Griffin PowerMate is just the thing for you.In addition to being a nearly-neverending source for suggestive yet lame humor, it's also the first "cool" control peripheral I've bought that actually proves useful (he says, looking meaningfully at a closet full of various Microsoft controllers that all seemed like really good ideas at the time).
The PowerMate is, basically, a knob.A big, machined aluminum knob that looks like it fell off an expensive piece of studio equipment.It sits on a slightly rubbery translucent base that gives it excellent grip (on my glass desktop at least). There are two blue LEDs hidden in the base, more of which later.The USB cable is somewhat dinky (maybe 18" long) but it does come with an extender that adds another 3' or so.The desk footprint of the unit is tiny - it's maybe 2" across.
The knob works with all recent versions of Windows, MacOS 9 and MacOS X.I've only tried it with the last of these, so your mileage may vary, but by the looks of the manual the only thing missing when used with Windows (and with some types of Mac) is the "soft power on" feature.Push the knob and the machine starts up.Note that this only seems to be a feature that works on recent PowerMac G4s, if the document is to be believed, and even then only if the PowerMate is plugged directly into one of the machines USB ports (i.e. not into one of the keyboard ports, or a hub).
Both Windows and Mac versions of the software are "application sensitive".This means that you can define specific behaviors for the knob when specific applications have window focus.
The default behavior is to turn the volume up and down, while pressing it mutes/unmutes the sound.If that was all there was to it I'd have been unimpressed - I've got keys on my keyboard to do that.However, it comes with default mappings for a number of applications (iTunes, iMovie, Internet Explorer) that changes its function to be something more suitable.
You can map any of a number of actions (left turn, right turn, click, click and left turn, click and right turn) to generate either an arbitrary repeated keypress, a cursor movement or to instruct the application to scroll up or down.The rate at which the PowerMate generates keypresses can be varied, as can the knob's sensitivity.So, for example, in Internet Explorer turning the knob scrolls up and down the document while clicking pops up the "Open Location" dialog, while in iTunes you have control over the volume (which is separate from the system volume control) and clicking plays/pauses the music.
What's really nice is that you can change these settings, and add new ones for your own applications.I rarely change the volume in iTunes, so I mapped that to the "click and turn" actions, and set the normal turning of the knob to scroll up and down the list of songs in my library.Note that you may need to twiddle with the repeat rate to make using the knob "comfortable" - I found that unless the repeat rate was set to the slowest possible, I tended to overshoot the song I was trying to select.
I've also added settings for Mozilla (specifically for scrolling up and down, clicking the knob to open a new tab, and I've mapped the click and turn actions to the back and forward buttons) and I've got plans to map most of the major applications I use.In short, if you've got an application that has keyboard shortcuts for any sort of scrolling or slider (or even for any sort of button you may want to hit repeatedly), you can use the PowerMate to do it.
Turn it into a zoom knob in Photoshop, or use it to control brush size - obviously there are limits in tools like this where you've got several thousand keyboard shortcuts and only five actions to map them to.I'm not sure if you can connect two PowerMates simultaneously, but if you can this could combine with Photoshop to provide the makings of the world's most expensive Etch-A-Sketch.
There's also apparently a "game mode" where each turn a single keypress rather than a stream.The manual suggests it could be used for Tempest or Space Invaders, my mind suggests it might (in regular mode) have possibilities for strafing in FPS games.
Oh, I almost forgot about the glowing.As I mentioned right at the start of the review, the translucent base hides two blue LEDs.When used as a volume control the brightness of the base directly reflects volume level.The rest of the time it can either be a solid blue or (settable from the control panel) set to pulse at a user specified rate.Pulsing is also the default behavior (on my PowerMac at least) when the machine is in sleep mode.The combination of the power light on my PowerMac, my Studio Display and my PowerMate all pulsing on and off in sync is quite impressive in a darkened room.Clicking the PowerMate adds to the ways you can wake a sleeping system too.
All in all, a really nice little gizmo with a bunch of different uses at a reasonable price (it might seem expensive compared to, say, a mouse, but you're talking nicely machined aluminum here, not cheap plastic), to say nothing of the sophistication such phrases as "my knob glows blue in the dark" can add to conversation at dinner parties.

I take my fun very seriously <grin> so when it came time to evaluate the latest crop of game controllers on the market, I did a lot of web research first. After exhausting the resources of every review site I could find, I ended up buying the Logitech Wingman Extreme Gamepad. Most sites seemed to like it so the next step was to try this "G-Force Tilt" gizmo for myself.
Even at the very end of its wire, there is thoughtful design - you can use it in either the USB or sound card game port thanks to the included USB/gameport adapter. Software installation is as simple as it gets. After a quick reboot, I was prompted to plug in the gamepad. It was instantly recognized by Windows 98 and I was soon witnessing first-hand the fluid tilt mechanism behaving just like a joystick in the properties window. You simply hold the pad in your hands and tilt it left, right, forward or back to achieve analog movement along the X and Y axis. In this mode, the gamepad's D-pad works like an 8 position "hat" switch - very useful in flight (and some driving) sims. If you prefer it to act like a regular digital gamepad, you simply deactivate it by pressing the "sensor" button. A little top-mounted light turns from green to red and the tilt mechanism is off - giving you accurate and quick digital X/Y axis control with the D-pad.
This tilt mechanism is more than mere novelty. It feels like you're operating an invisible joystick - and it's extremely easy and intuitive to use in driving and flight simulations! When you're flying a plane and you want to pull up, what's more natural than tilting your gamepad's nose up? You get the feeling that you're holding a model of your plane in your hands and that it obeys and copies every move you make with it. Driving is no different - you feel like you're holding a free-floating steering wheel in your hands. If you want, you can assign gas to the "nose down" and brake to the "nose up" movement or, to either of its TEN buttons (including two triggers). The included software allows you to configure button controls for any of your installed games - including the abilty to "map" keyboard commands (or strings of keyboard commands) to each of the 10 buttons and D-pad. Once saved, your game "profile" will automatically load onto the gamepad when you launch the specific game it's set for. This is something that other game controller manufacturers (Microsoft, for one) can't do - they force you to first open their profile software and manually choose which game you're about to play to load the profile BEFORE you start that particular game. With Logitech's software, it's a no-brainer. No profiles to manually load or unload.
The controller is exceptionally light (much lighter and more streamlined than the Gravis Xterminator it replaced in my home) and very comfortable to hold. All buttons are within easy reach of my thumbs (with my average-to-small sized hands) and the triggers underneath are naturally where my index fingers would want them. Some review sites out there say it took them a while to get used to the tilt feature and gave it lower marks for that reason - but even my two kids (11 and 7 years old) got the hang of driving Need for Speed III with this thing almost instantly. When I showed them how to deactivate the tilt so they could use it as a regular gamepad, they immediately wanted the tilt re-engaged - it's that much more fun! Banking and moving the controller to get your game character (or car or plane) to move is not only natural (ever watch someone using a regular controller and see them lean into a turn?) but adds that much more of an immersive quality to any game. You can even switch the tilt feature on and off in the middle of game play! It really feels like you're the one doing the controlling now - not D-pad or a joystick.
I highly recommend this gamepad to anyone who plays a variety of game styles on their PC. While a dedicated joystick might give you a couple more options (like analog rudder and throttle controls), this thing's G-Force Tilt mechanism will fly just fine. While a steering wheel and pedal set might duplicate the driving experience better, tilting your way through turns with this pad is surely the next best thing. And when it comes to sports and action games where quick, digital-quality input is required to survive, all you have to do is push the "sensor" button to deactivate the tilt behavior and you've got yourself a high-quality digital gamepad with 10 programmable, easy-to-reach buttons. The $40 I paid for it was money well spent. To make the deal even sweeter, I found it bundled with a full version of Tony Hawk 2 - easily worth almost $40 by itself! My kids now have a gamepad for their games and I (thanks to the tilt feature) have a built-in, invisible joystick with plenty of buttons plus a hat switch for my games : )

I bought the combo PS2/PC version of this on Ebay for $25. I did not install any of the bundled Drivers or Button Profile Software, all I did was put the batteries in it, plug the Wireless Receiver into Player 1 slot on my SuperJoy PS2 to USB adapter I bought from Liksang and I was ready to go. I loaded up Joy2Key (a homebrew freeware Button Mapping app which is simpler and takes up less processing power than the one's bundled with most PC gamepads) and right away I was playing Emulators on the TV (via my Svideo and Audio out cables) from the comfort of my couch.

The controller is huge, almost as big as the Xbox "Duke" stock controller, which is good for me because I have large hands. It has nice features such as Turbofire and Macro, and for once they put Start and Select in a place where I can reach them without banging my thumbs on the analogue sticks like what always happened to me with stock PS2 pads. I'm happy I got this controller, but if I could change anything about it, I'd change the "Rolling Rocker" D-Pad into a standard Cross style seen on most Madcatz pads, and I would make the L1 L2, R1 R2 buttons bigger as they are a bit small and don't have much pressing depth to them. Circle, Square, Triangle and X could also stand to be wider in circumference.

I purchased a Dual Compatible gamepad, and have had nothing but problems. I purchased the gamepad based on Alienware's reputation, but clearly that was a mistake. First of all, for some reason whenever the control would rumble (force feedback), the lights on the pad would dim and windows stop recognizing it for a second. I suspect this is due to faulty circuitry, as the gamepad is hooked directly to a USB port that provides ample power. Windows would recognize it again after the rumbling stops, but I would have to restart whatever game I happen to be playing before I can use it in that game again. Games would not let me disable rumbling, likely a driver problem, so I had to open the gamepad and remove the rumble motors to solve the problem, which is unacceptable. Another problem is that the point where the detachable thumbpad connects to the stick is too bulky, and sometimes I'm unable to tilt the stick fully to the left or right, and ingame the character would stutter between walking and running. And now, to top it all off, for some reason when I push the right stick up or down, it registers in windows as me pushing the left stick right or left, despite the fact that I'm not touching the left stick, more evidence of faulty circuitry. Finally, on the right stick, left and right is set the the rZ axis, while up and down is set to the Z axis. This is the opposite of what most pads use, and is irritating in games that don't let me set it. At the very least, some software support for swapping these axises would be nice.

In short, this will be the last Alienware gamepad I ever purchase. Logitech offers a similiar gamepad for the same price, and while it lacks rumble and PS2 support, the reliability and robust profiling software (included for free no less!) make it well worth it compared to this piece of junk. I only wish I had saved the receipt.

This seems to be a very popular item with the flight sim crowd.I am not a gamer and perhaps thats my problem.I am a real pilot (Private, Instrument, SEL, HP, Complex) and use MS Flight Sim to review procedures at airports I have not yet flown into. I bought this yoke to increase therealism of the simulation.

This yoke is a piece of junk.Aside from the spurious control imputs and constant recalibration, it bounces in both axes and does not feel or move anything like a real yoke.If you want realism look elseware.I currently use a mouse with MS Flight Sim; it is more realistic.

Its well worth spending more and buying a quality wheel. Where do I begin... This vest is totally AWESOME!! I hooked my brother up in this (Make sure it's nice and snug) and loaded up "Call of Duty 2" and the results were hilarious! Not only did he have an awesome time playing the game, but we also did watching him play the game!! Even now, days later, it's hard to suppress the laughter while typing this!

I highly recommend this for ANYONE serious gamer or not! Toss your anti-depressants and buy this vest! It's guaranteed to bring a smile to EVERYONE'S FACE!! My Dad even game this bad boy a try (And he's 53 years old) and he loved it!

And now for some specs on the vest. First of all, you will probably need a desktop with a high graphics card and at least 4GB of RAM. I tried playing this on my MacBook with 2GB of Ram and "Call of Duty 2" stuck so bad I couldn't even play it! Then I tried it on my new Mac Pro desktop with 8GB of RAM and a Nvidia GT 120 and the game ran perfect even on high resolution! Now 8GB of RAM may be over kill, but that's what I have and this is how it performed.

All in all this purchase was a winner!

I've enjoyed using Saitek gamepads for awhile now due to their useful programmability combined with having a decent number of buttons.This model appears to have two more buttons than the P2500 (the 2500 and other similar models to it only had two shoulder buttons) but it actually has the same number since the two joysticks don't have the click-in-the-joystick-buttons.Mind you, the joysticks click in as if they were buttons, but they don't actually do anything.This makes the gamepad slightly less useful to me as I often set one of the joysticks to the mouse, and the built-in button as the mouse click.Using another button for the mouse click makes selecting things in various games a bit awkward and not as fast.

The odd thing is, that according to their website the P990 and P2600 Wireless which use the same 4-shoulder-button model also apparently have working joystick buttons.As the rumble feature isn't particularly useful, IMO, and Wireless controllers have their own set of problems, I'd suggest tracking down a P990 instead.

What can I say?It has a metal housing (not just painted plastic), the buttons are huge, and it slides like glass across a surface.It has a very low-profile design which makes it ideal for gaming.I traded off my Logitech G7 (cordless G5) for it, and it met my expectations for doing so.

Pros- EXTREMELY accurate.It may say 1800dpi, but it's instant (1ms response).Huge over-sized buttons which allow you to stretch and move your fingers around during a game session.Excellent scroll wheel and perfect skates.

Cons- Only 5 buttons, difficult switching the DPI unless you sacrifice one of the five buttons...that's about all of the cons.

Bottom Line- It's durable, comes with extra feet, and should last for many years to come.I think this mouse cuts the bells and whistles; it gives you only what you NEED.If a 5 button mouse does the trick for you, I can't recommend this mouse enough.Get one before they're gone for good.

The most obvious comment to make is on the price. It's so inexpensive that I would recommend it to anyone who has even a casual interest in racing games. It really does make a world of difference when playing these games (and you become a much better driver too!)
The software was easy to install and it plugs into a serial port (usually with the sound card.) The calibration worked fine so I haven't run into problems with the cars drifting in one direction or another. I have to warn people that this was made back in the Win95/98 days and I'm not sure if it'll work properly with Win2000 or XP. You may want to pop an email to Thrustmaster just to make sure before buying.
Because of the low price, you may think Thrustmaster cut corners. As far as the wheel is concerned this is not the case. It has a nice grip and just enough resistance to make you feel like you're leaning into the turns. Let go of the wheel and it snaps back into place. It's designed to "clamp" on to a desk and the grip is nice and solid. Two buttons and a rudder pedal are on each side of the wheel. These can be programmed for additional functions such as gear shifting, looking behind, horn, etc...
The one area Thrustmaster where really skimped out is on the flimsy pedals included with the set. First off they're so small a small child can't fit their foot on them. Plus they're too close together to be considered realistic. Finally, the base is so lightweight that your attempts at stepping on the gas may send them flying across the floor. I have to hold the base down with one foot while depressing the gas pedal with the other.Annoying.I'm considering disconnecting them and just using the rudder pedals for acceleration (or super-gluing the pedals to the floor.)
I originally bought this back when Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed was still popular but never hooked it up for some reason. I guess it's because I was able to get by using the keyboard. EA's latest release, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit II has such bad driving physics that it's virtually unplayable using a keyboard. Hooking this wheel up, however made a world of difference (it's actually playable now), so I'd recommend it to anyone who plays these or other racing games for fun. If you're a real racing enthusiast, you may want to bypass this for a wheel with quality pedals.

I was looking for a joystick with enough buttons to play some games that would cause a keyboard to lock up but with a D-Pad because I was more comfortable using one in most situations. This one works very well for that purpose. It's also very easy to configure the two analog pads for various things, including control of the mouse or 4 analog axes. It's easy to set the D-Pad directions to act like regular buttons or remap the buttons. There are more than enough buttons in various places so you should have no problem configuring this to work comfortably with any windows game that can use a joystick. In case you cannot tell from the picture, there are two shoulder buttons and two trigger buttons on the top and back. Their positions feel natural to me.
This controller requires no calibration and has no mechanism to shift the center. I've had problems with other joysticks that "flicker" slightly, causing games that do not take into account the degree a joystick is pressed to think I'm pressing the joystick in a direction when I am not. I have had no such problems here.
All of this assumes that you can install it, and installing it is where I had problems. I bought this used and the software was not included. It appears the InterAct site has been down for a while, and I had to go on a wild goose chase to find the drivers. Also, windows NT was not originally supported so if you have a version of NT or XP, you'll have to find the drivers online. So if you buy this, make sure you have the software for the correct operating system first (this is model SV-282, possibly with an extra letter at the end), or that it's included and you're running windows 9x.
For reasons unknown, I haven't been able to get the keyboard mapping to work. The email address the software includes for support was unreachable. If keyboard mapping, macros, or auto-fire is a major reason you're shopping for this thing, or the idea of not having someone to badger with your problems worries you, you may want to go with a newer, better-supported product.

The Disney Dream Desk USB Game Controller with Dual Vibration is not just for kids! Granted the kids do like it alot though.
I got this for playing mame and was looking for a inexpensive unit to try things out with and if the kids broke it eh no biggie. Well to my surprise this unit is very well made and sturdy feeling. My little one said it seemed to fit better than the other one we had and I have to agree.

Buttons work well and are responsive the thumbsticks are good but they are a far cry from a real joystick.

It has a auto fire function which is kinda cool you can turn it on and when you press fire it will keep shooting or punching or what ever, come in handy with some of these games arg! LOL

The vibration does not work with mame but does seem to work with other games but I kinda was expecting that.

All in all a decent gamepad that is hard to beat at this price. I have even got a couple of extras for those 4 player games :)

Go to an electronics store and feel this in your hands - it's the best review you could ask for.Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to like this controller, there is a negative for every positive.I mean that quite literally - for every good feature, that feature also has something wrong with it.I noticed all this after only 1 day with it:
Layout - the positive is that the Rumblepad is nearly identical to the Playstation's Dualshock controller.There are 7 buttons, 2 triggers, 2 analog sticks, a d-pad, a shift button, and even a throttle slide!For many games, you will not need to use the keyboard when you've got this gamepad.However, the Rumblepad is different enough from the Dualshock that if you are trying to play Playstation games on your PC (Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, bleem!, etc) you will have some relearning to do.You might want to wait until Sony starts making USB Dualshock controllers.(which should be in 6 months)
Feel - this gamepad is nice and big, and doesn't cramp my large (adult male) hands at all.However, the buttons are terrible!They are tiny, hard to press, harder to reach, and even harder to figure out which one you want without looking at the pad.I can't simply rest my thumb naturally on the buttons, but have to bend it akwardly and press the buttons with the very tip of my thumb.This is a design flaw of the pad, not because of my particular build, which is quite average.
Analog Sticks - these are both very responsive, and perfectly positioned.The negative is that they don't have a good gripping surface or shape, so your thumbs don't stay centered on them.Because the sticks are curved inwards, (console sticks on all major systems are curved outwards) I often find I am controlling the stick by its very edge, which is uncomfortable and very inaccurate. As if by the Hand of God, you usually won't need to repositon your thumb until you reach a particular important part of your game!
USB - this speaks for itself.USB is great, if you don't know yet.You can unplug the pad and move it off your desk easily.However, this gamepad requires a -powered- USB hub.You can't plug this into your keyboard USB ports.Great if you already own a powered hub, but if you don't that means you either spend another $ on one, or you plug it into the back of your computer case (thus defeating the ease of USB)
(as of Oct 2000, the Rumblepad doesn't work well with Windows ME.I downloaded the latest update from Logitech, but my computer locks up whenever I plug the gamepad in.I have to have my computer off to plug it in.However, this might be caused by the power requirements of the Rumblepad, not the software.)

Those of you who've played plenty of action/arcade style games on a PDA knows that the PDA buttons simply do not cut it when trying to weave your fighter plane through an onslaught of bullets or trying to make your way through a Super Mario style platformer.What's even worse is that PDA buttons are not built to take the kind of button-abuse that often comes from playing those games and can get worn out fairly quick.
I wanted to play games on my PDA without breaking the buttons so with that in mind, I decided on getting a Clie SJ33 and the GC10.The controller works very well.I've only run across a couple games that does not work well or don't work at all with the game controller and both of them work better (gameplay-wise) with the stylus control.The GC10 is a necessity if you have a Gameboy emulator on your Clie.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.
The extra battery drain was not as big an issue as reviews from other sights led me to believe.It does drain slightly faster but only very slight and usually when it does drain quickly, it's because you're playing a game that uses a lot of power to begin with (games with lots of action) and because you're using a game controller, you're probably playing it longer too.
The extra strap is almost useless.The instructions say it's to prevent the controller from accidentally falling from PDA but the controller's grip is so good it's much more likely you'll drop the PDA before dropping the controller.The strap is useful for dangling your controller from your belt or backpack so that you can have easy access if you get the urge to play.
I have yet to find a game that supports the X/Y buttons.The instructions says they're "programmable" but I have yet to find a way to get them to work with any game.Not that big a deal since most games don't use that many buttons but it is wasted potential.
The GC10 includes a copy of Columns and some game demos.The Columns gameplay is spot on and gives you something to use the controller with right out of the box.It'll definitely give you the good feeling of using a real game control rather than the cumbersome PDA buttons. :D
Pros: Gamepad button layout, very sturdy, extra buttons for menus and going back to the main PDA screen, hold switch, securely grips your PDA so it's very unlikely to fall off, comes with free game Columns (and it's high-res!).
Cons: Does not work with all games, slightly faster battery drain, cannot charge & use controller at same time, X & Y buttons are useless, does not fit all Clies.

I own this controller since the days of Windows 95 and still use it sporadically in these days of Windows XP.
This gamepad connects to the PC's game port instead of a USB port. I also own a Sidewinder USB joystick and they work together very well. When I get tired of using one control I grab the other one and start playing. There is no Joystick 1 or 2 on the PC, most games respond to the input of any control connected as long as it is configured in Control Panel.
This gamepad has 10 buttons, still more than enough for current games.The layout is similar to the Super Nintendo and N64 controllers.It includes the L and R button equivalents but it doesn't provide an analog stick.
I use this gamepad mostly for emulated arcade games and for playing Super Nintendo and N64 emulated games on the PC.
The gamepad includes driver and configuration software compatible with Windows 95, 98 and ME.In my case, Windows XPrecognizes the gamepad without the need for this software, I believe Windows 2000 should be the same.
Although is a bit old, and maybe outdated for some game purists, this gamepad still works with current technology (as of this writing) and it is cheap enough to consider it a good choice for those of us who only do casual gaming.I also recommend it if you don't want to take up a precious USB port on your PC.

Found this pad at Best Buy for $13 and made a really good purchase.Playstation-style arrangement is sweet for everything except some fighting games.Being a Street Fighter fan doesn't help, but that does not hinder this controller.Fireballs come off slickly from the d-pad, the buttons have perfect feel, and the analog sticks work splendidly.I still suggest that you NOT use this pad for FPS games.Joystick-and-Mouse is still the way to go on those titles, unless you're emulating GoldenEye64 on your PC.

Also, there's no bad sticker shock on this pad, unlike that $600 racing setup with the F1 molded seat.

I bought the Saitek P220 game pad because I needed a cheap USB controller to play classic arcade games on my laptop.For the most part, it's a decent controller.It features a total of 8 buttons (six on the front and two on the the top) so it's versatile enough for simple jump-and-shoot games as well as complex fighting games.
A unique, but unusable, feature is the center throttle button.There are four settings that can be selected by pressing it either up or down.Also, you can go for a more precise control by holding it and slowly increasing/decreasing the speed.I'm guessing it was made to give the user better control with acceleration in racing games, but it will take some time to get used to it.Your better off buying some pedals and a steering wheel.
This 8-way directional button is not as precise as it should be but this is a problem with every game pad (made specifically for PC's) that I have seen.The build quality needs some work because some buttons are looser or stick up higher than others.However, since this is the cheapest controller I could find, that was expected.
All in all, this is a good cheap controller.Setup was a snap with Windows XP, it really is plug-and-play.I've had it for almost a month and it's still working.If you're looking for a cheap controller this is the one for you.If you're looking for a hard-core controller, look elsewhere.For $, what do you expect?

When I learned of this device from a friend, I had two questions: "Does it work with NovaLogic's "Black Hawk Down" game and "How much does it cost?" TO answer the first question, I contacted NovaLogic and asked them if this device would work with BHD - however, they informed me that BHD was not designed for 'game controllers'. Since this device is NOT a 'game controller (joystick, gamepad, etc) I concluded it would work fine (additionally, my friend also uses his for BHD as well). So I purchased it. As to the cost? Well, that is variable depending on where you get it.
It took me a couple of minutes to install the Commander on my XP system (USB), and I was programming the buttons shortly thereafter. Note: This does *not* replace your mouse or keyboard. It is a great addition to allow you to move your character around, perform things like crouch, jump, reload, lean, roll, hop, go prone, select weapon, emote, etc all from just 6 keys. It comes pre-programmed to allow you to move it forward and sideways to replace the keyboard directional keys (it does not "roll" on the desktop, rather, the top unit 'slides' (Forward, Backwards, Left, Right) on top of the stationary base. It also has a 'twist' function, if you desire that can be programmed as well.
Since it's designed for LEFT hand use, I found it took a short time to get used to it while mousing with my right hand (I keep the mouse for the LOOK functions and scope functions). It feels solid on my desktop and is easy to use. It does not slide around due to the rubber feet.
You can 'record' and program keyboard shortcuts on the fly (with the RECORD button), oryou can use the interface program to program your buttons. Each button has a function along with three "shift" functions (the shift button is beneath your thumb). All told, it will handle up to 72 keyboard (macro) commands (arrows, scroll lock, etc) so you do not have to take your hand off the controller to do in-game functions. NOTE: This is not a "CHEAT" - it just allows you to move your hand faster and not lose your concentration. (You can also program multiple keyboard combinations as well as a one-button 'macro')
All in all, it's worth the money. You can switch from 3 profiles on the fly - and you can save and load mappings as well. For instance, you can have one profile as a gunner, one for a medic, one for a sniper, etc.
As it works well with BHD, I'd expect the same to be true for "Battlefield: 1942" and other 3D combat games. It comes with profiles for about 30 other games (2D strategy games like Ages of Empires, etc).
Retail price for this is about $60 (and I could never find one locally) but you can find it online for much less (probably less than half of the MSR price - I got mine for about $21 + shipping).I've been using mine for several days and I'm very happy with it. It definitely enhances the game.

The value you get from this product will depend upon your dedication to race gaming.

I bought it for my sons who would be using the machine for an hour or two a day. Whilst initial enthusiasm was expressed by all the reality is that the computer is still used as much as it was, but this wheel has not been out of the closet since April. Here are the facts (at least according to us):

a) The base of this unit is huge, so when attached to a fairly standard computer desk with sliding keyboard drawer there is no room for the keyboard too.
b) The unit has three different wires which come from the back of the unit, so these either have to be threaded over the back of the desk each time, or wrap around the front getting caught up in the kids legs.
c) On many of the games we tried the force of the force feedback was much stronger than in typical arcade games, too strong for my 7 year old to handle. (Some games allow this to be altered, but not all)
d) Most games require the wheel to be re-callibrated for each use, perfect for perfectionists but again it means significant 'daddy intervention' when the kids want to switch games.
e) The power transformer is directly welded into the plug prongs, so this beast takes up three slots in a normal power block, thus requiring its own power block.

Now, on the up-side. When I use the properly installed wheel you can callibrate things so that it does handle like a real car. So if you can set things up properly, and leave them set up, then I suspect this is a very good piece of kit.

But for the casual user, too bulky, too messy and too much like hard work to be used frequently.

This gamepad is a no-brainer.For under $10, you get a gamepad that you can just plug in, and it works, first try, with Windows XP... which is exactly what I wanted.No drivers, no hassles!The D-Pad seems much improved over previous versions, and is 3x better than the very-hard-to-use D-Pad on my (original) Wingman Rumblepad.It has 8 buttons that work when you press them.The overall size of the gamepad is a bit smaller than some of the other models, and it works perfectly for my 6-yr-old.The USB cable is a bit longer than the other gamepads I've used, which is a plus.

The only thing I see that could be improved is to include the 2 extra buttons (Start and Select), which would have made it exactly like the Gravis Gamepad Pro.Some games like to have to two extra buttons, but most will let you just use the computer keyboard for those features (pause the game, go back to the menu, etc.).

All in all, you can't lose with this gamepad... order 2 or 3 and get everyone in on the game!

Review of NZXT Avatar 2600dpi Optical Gaming Mouse for PC (Black)

First I would like to state that I gave them 1 stars because they had good customer service and willing to help you out. The product deserve 1 star because it depends on how lucky you are if it actually works well.

I bought this product from Amazon and I had a defective old version of this mouse. The mouse would double click out of nowhere many times after 3 days of usage. I went to the NZXT office in El Monte and got it replaced and it worked fine, but only for 3 days. I went down there again and got it replace with the newer model of this mouse. It work fine for 1 week or so and it start double clicking again. So after 3 mouse I still got the problem.

I test the problem by installing the newest driver at their website and trying it on 3 other computers and the problem is still present.

The mouse feels very good for small hands and it has a very good design. It is very light and it has a good blue led glow to it.

I will update this review again, once I get in contact with them again about my mouse again....

Review of Kinesis Savant Elite Triple Action Foot Switch - Foot switch - 3 button(s)

I just received this device today and these are my first impressions:

Depending on how high you set your chair, you might find that this device will cause undue strain in your ankles. The pads are too sensitive for the weight of your legs so as a result you have to lift and angle your foot above the pad during idleness. This gets very tiresome after a few minutes. I'm still experimenting on alternate methods.

Looking at the picture, I thought this device would be at least large enough to accomodate both feet comfortably. However, it is way smaller than you think to the point where you end up using one foot for all the button rather than two. If you do use both feet, you will have a problem working the middle footpad as it is very close to the other two pads and therefore crowded by both your feet.

On the plus side, it does control the left, middle and right mouse buttons as advertised without affecting the performance of your computer mouse. You can easily ignore the footpads and still use the mouse buttons. I have not as yet tried to program the footpads as a hotkey. Maybe later.

I'll update after a weeks of usuage and see if there is much improvement... I certainly hope so.

Review of Razer Diamondback Plasma Limited Edition - Ice Blue

I'm not a gamer.

I bought this mouse for ergo reasons. And because I spend enough of my life at the computer that there's no reason to have anything other than the hottest equipment.

I switched from the Logitech MX-510, the other hot gamer's mouse series. They're functionally very similar, but the Razer Diamondback has been far superior (for me) in practice! Here's the breakdown:

Razer Diamondback pros:
- Better ergo I: Smaller size that fits more naturally in your palm, in better "at rest" position, than the Logitech. (At least for my desk and my hand.)
- Better ergo II: Also, the way your fingers rest on the (slip-proof) main mouse buttons is more relaxed. In particular, it feels like I'm easily using my whole finger. The Logitech in comparison was awkward, felt like I was using only part of my finger, or never quite was settled right.
- More buttons, or at least more buttons available for reasonable use.
- Left and Right side buttons much more comfortable to click.
- More programmable? At least in practice, more easily programmable, so I did customie more.
- Great driver and control panel applet to set options for the mouse. This really helped me get more use out of it.
- Nice work on software details; e.g. "on-the-fly sensitivity" adjustment, without going back to Control Panel, just with controls on the mouse.

Logitech MX-510 pros:
- The Logitech has two buttons, one each above and below the scroll wheel, that mean "keep scrolling in that direction." So you roll the wheel in one direction, and when your finger hits the end of the roll, you can just move to the button right there to say "keep going." Nice. I'll miss that. (But I've already adjusted the scroll speed conveniently several times on the Razer to where I'll miss it less; I never (or at most once?) adjusted the scroll speed on the Logitech.)

These kinds of choices can be very personal. But in my experience, you couldn't get me to go back to the Logitech now.

Review of Microsoft SideWinder Dual Strike

When playing FPS (first person shooters) games, you are usually hunched over your desk with one hand on the keyboard, and one hand on the mouse or trackball. This device allows you to lean back, sit comfortably and play hours on end. The pad is versatile enough to incorporate all the essential functions of any FSP. However, you tend to lose some precision relative to a trackball, i.e. this device will probably not increase your Quake II Railgun kill ratio. In addition, the hat switch does break too easily and too soon. However, I was able to extend the life of my pad with superglue.Overall, I don't see anything on the market that gives you the ease of play for FPS games, which is why I give it 4 stars, but I would recommend buying two so you have a back up when the 1st one breaks, "and it will break"
